The Rise of Quiet Luxury and What It Means for Hotel Uniforms

Quiet luxury speaks in a softer voice, one defined by subtlety, quality, and restraint rather than showiness. In fashion, it means craftsmanship and construction matter more than the label on the tag.

Rooted in “old money” traditions that expressed wealth through quality and discretion, this mindset has gained popularity in the 2020s.

For select hotels, it emerged gradually as guest expectations shifted from spectacle to experience. Many boutique and luxury hotels, for example, have adopted calm, residential looks. At these properties, grand chandeliers and ornate lobbies have fallen out of favor and muted, minimalistic architecture has taken hold.

Not surprisingly, this evolution has been accompanied by “invisible service,” where guest needs are anticipated without intrusion.

On the uniform front, quiet luxury manifests itself in the form of refined design, premium fabrics, and understated branding. It’s about communicating professionalism and confidence without decorative excess.

“While still popular, attention-grabbing garments are not for everyone,” notes JA Uniforms Founder Alex Arrencibia.  “We’re seeing an uptick in luxury hoteliers who favor muted, clean designs with discreetly placed logos – often tone-on-tone, premium fabrics with subtle design cues.”

With research suggesting that 73% of hotel guests associate staff attire with overall quality, uniforms are a subtle but powerful brand signal. As hotels invest more in timeless, high-end uniform programs, quiet luxury is becoming more deeply embedded in the uniform industry. Because, when it comes to luxury, the smallest details can make the biggest impression.
